Members of Denton Poets' Assembly will meet at the Emily Fowler Public Library on May 19th.
A critique session begins at 9 a.m. and continued until 9:45.
We call the meeting to order at 10 a.m. After greeting visitors, members discuss chapter business and related chapter activities.
Following the discussion members read assigned poems based on J. Paul Holcomb’s lesson, "Speaking of Sonnets, Let’s Look at Barry Ballard’s."
After our assigned poetry readings, J. Paul presents his May lesson, "Try an Exercise in Poetic Discipline; Write a Cinquain."
Next, members and guests read free choice poems.
Member Recognition
- On April 29, DPA members J. Paul Holcomb, Christine Irving, Robert Schinzel and Beth Honeycutt presented poetry readings. The event is billed as "An Afternoon with the Poet Laureate" and featured two rounds of 7.5 minutes of reading by each poet. Paul is the Poet Laureate of Lewisville. All four are members of the Denton Poets Assembly.
- "The April Perennial" North Central Texas College, Gainesville, TX. Bob Schinzel won 1st place, Beth Honeycutt 3rd Place in the Garland Ray Wallace Poetry Contest.
- Beth Honeycutt won honorable mention in the Thomlinson Short Story Contest.
- In the Lucidity Ozark Poetry Retreat, April 12, 2018, Eureka Springs, AR. Bob Schinzel won 1st place in the retreat contest.
