Denton Poet’s Assembly welcomes all poets, members and guests to our October 17th meeting of at the Emily Fowler Central Library from 10:00 a.m. until noon.

J. Paul Holcomb plans to deliver a lesson on writing a Pantoum: Tired of repeating yourself?  Do it with class inside a pantoum. Please join us for this timely poetry presentation.

Following J. Paul’s lesson, we plan to read assigned poems on “freshness” poems based on his September presentation.

Members and guests will read a free-choice following the assigned poem. As always, we invite visitors to share their free choice poems.

In DPA News

We recognized two members for their recently published poetry; Jacqueline Stem for This and That and Marjorie Jo Chesebro for Mental States: A Poet’s Journey, both available on Amazon.
  • On October 3rd Molly Middleton Meyer presented a workshop, "Riding on Dragons." In this unique three-hour workshop, poets will learn to fly from the conscious mind to the unconscious mind and back again, all within a single poem. DPA members, Patrick Marshall, Christine and John Irving, Richard Weatherly, Marjorie Chesebro, Nancy de Honores, and Ione Hunt von Herbing participated.

  • On October 15th, Richard Blanco was in Mckinney as part of the Rhythms of Pen and Brush event. Mr. Blanco is the fifth poet ever to present at a president’s inauguration, following in the steps of previous poets Maya Angelou and Robert Frost. Several DPA members attended the event. The event took place at the Mckinney Performing Arts Center. Mr. Blanco held a workshop prior to the event.
