Denton Poets' Assembly will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15th at the Emily Fowler Public Library in Denton, Texas.

This will be our final regular meeting before the PST Summer Conference during the 2nd week of July.

Kudos to Richard Kushmaul and the PST 50th Annual Summer Conference Committee now that we are on the threshold of the conference.

Our spotlight poet is Beth Honeycutt. Beth will give her reading immediately after our opening discussion.

Instead of our usual Read & Response session, Susan Maxwell Campbell will present a poetry potpourri. It is intended to give us breathing time to handle last details on the conference and go to NM too without a cluttered brain. As an activity, we'll have lines from Beatles songs and make collage poems with partners (not the same as found poems because you can "cut and paste" parts you like); as with everything, what we do there may inspire a great poem later.

Members and guests will share free choice poems following the break.

We adjourn at noon.

Denton Poets' Assembly meets on the third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m. - noon at the Emily Fowler Central Library, 502 Oakland Street, Denton, TX 76201. Meetings are free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome. For more information, visit http://DentonPoetsAssembly.weebly.com

… to sleep perchance to dream … Our prompt for the month is sleep.   Our monthly prompts are offered as simple hooks with which to possibly catch a poem.  No one has to fish!  They are there for your edification and fun.
Sleep is an subject of interest to the sciences - both hard and soft, art, literature, poetry, theatre, theology, history and philosophy.  Without it we fail to thrive, go mad, become brain-washed, stupid and quick to anger.  Sleep promotes inspiration, solves problems, relieves stress, buffers us from the consequence of change.  It offers sweet repose, respite, restoration of meaning forgetfulness, freedom and the opportunity, sometimes unwelcome, to wrestle with our demons in a different arena.  On a PET scan emotions register exactly the same in a dream state as in an awakened one; who then can tell the real from the real?
