DPA elections for June 2017 have been delayed until our July meeting this month.

Annie Neugebauer has elected to step down as Web Master. She will be missed. She has agreed to provide a limited amount of time to review the web site with a few of us when we can arrange a mutually convenient time.

Confirmation of Board Members

·       Cindy Wood has elected to remain as a director.
·       Beth Honeycutt has elected to remain as a director
·       J. Paul Holcomb has elected to remain as our honorary board member

The slate that we will be proposing for officers are:

Richard Weatherly, President (currently president)
Betty Roberts, Vice President, has agreed to serve if elected
Christine Irving, Treasurer (Currently Treasurer)
Shiny Wu, Secretary, has agreed to serve if elected
Web Master, Open

DPA will introduce the Slate and then accept any nominations from the floor, prior to voting this Saturday, July 15th.

Next, members will read assigned poems from J. Paul Holcomb's June lesson, "Heroes."

Following the readings, J. Paul Holcomb will present the July lesson.

During the last hour of our meeting, members and guests have the opportunity to read a free-choice poem.

Special Events in DPA NewsThe 2017 NFSPS Convention was June 29 – July 2, 2017, at the Downtown Hilton in Fort Worth, Texas. It was a great program.
DPA had eleven members attend the event including, Cindy Wood, J. Paul Holcomb, Chris Irving, Betty Roberts, Bob Schinzel, Becca Hines, Susan Maxwell Campbell, Diane Glancy, Kelly Weathers, Shiny Wu, and Patrick Marshall. If we missed anyone we apologize.

Diane Glancy enchanted the crowd with her presentation, “Extract the
Signature, How to Shape a Manuscript.”

Chris Irving won the top prize, First Place in the NFSPS Founder’s Award and $1,000.

Seven of our members won awards in the NFSPS Poetry Contests, a stellar showing, taking 22 awards, representing 45% of the contests. An honorable mention in this contest typically means you are in the 2–5% the poets that entered. That is a significant achievement.
Our Congratulation to each of you.
