Special Announcement regarding the October 18 meeting of DPA.

Denton Poets’ Assembly will meet 10a.m – Noon, October 18th at an alternate location due to construction  at the Emily Fowler Public Library.

Instead, we will be guests of Good Samaritan Society Lake Forest Village. As always, DPA welcomes guests, including residents of the host community. During the October meeting, members will read poems basted on the free verse of Alan Birkelbach, the 2005 Poet Laureate of Texas.

Members and guests will be giving the opportunity to free choice poems.

Special Announcements Regarding J. Paul Holcomb. On September 27, he was honored with a proclamation naming him Poet Laureate of Lewisville. He was joined in the celebration by Texas Poet Laureate 2005 Alan Birkelbach and 2010 Poet Laureate Karla K. Morton. During the event, each of these poets took turns reading many of their favorite poems.

During our August meeting, J. Paul Holcomb gave a lesson based on Barry Ballard’s variations on sonnets, so after DPA members read their Barry Ballad Sonnets, guests will be invited to join us in a round of free choice poetry readings.

On September 21st, Patrick Marshall attended and read poetry at the Art of Peace Festival in Tyler, Texas.  This was a community-wide event to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace and encourage community spirit, and to promote a spirit of cooperation and community spirit through fellowship, dialogue, music, poetry, and art.

Patrick Marshall also attended and participated in the Georgetown Poetry Festival in early October.

In addition, please recognize Denton these poets who have recently released new books of poetry:
Collected Poems from Here and There by Jervis Underwood
And
Second Shadow on the Wall by Masood Parvaze
