Denton Poets’ Assembly will meet 10a.m – Noon, October 18th at an alternate location due to construction at the Emily Fowler Public Library.
Instead, we will be guests of Good Samaritan Society Lake Forest Village. As always, DPA welcomes guests, including residents of the host community. During the October meeting, members will read poems basted on the free verse of Alan Birkelbach, the 2005 Poet Laureate of Texas.
Members and guests will be giving the opportunity to free choice poems.
Special Announcements Regarding J. Paul Holcomb. On September 27, he was honored with a proclamation naming him Poet Laureate of Lewisville. He was joined in the celebration by Texas Poet Laureate 2005 Alan Birkelbach and 2010 Poet Laureate Karla K. Morton. During the event, each of these poets took turns reading many of their favorite poems.
During our August meeting, J. Paul Holcomb gave a lesson based on Barry Ballard’s variations on sonnets, so after DPA members read their Barry Ballad Sonnets, guests will be invited to join us in a round of free choice poetry readings.
On September 21st, Patrick Marshall attended and read poetry at the Art of Peace Festival in Tyler, Texas. This was a community-wide event to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace and encourage community spirit, and to promote a spirit of cooperation and community spirit through fellowship, dialogue, music, poetry, and art.
Patrick Marshall also attended and participated in the Georgetown Poetry Festival in early October.
In addition, please recognize Denton these poets who have recently released new books of poetry:

Directions once you've entered the Good Samaritan Lake Forest Village: You will be onMontecito Drive as you enter.
(Your next turn and destination will be in a short distance)
1. Once onto the property, you'll see apartments to the right, go passed one road to the left. At the next intersection when you
see the two short roadways leading past the old Guard house, TURN LEFT onto those roads.
. 2. Our meeting space is straight ahead in the Activities Building. Just drive straight past the guard house into the parking lot for the
Activities Building. Its blue gray, one story. It has a blue awning on one end. We can park along that building, but not under the
covered parking where the residents park. (Beyond that building, you will see the main multi-storied buildings.)
